SOGETI AT WORK

We Like to Work Hard and Play Hard

Jessica McDowell, Business Development Executive, shares some highlights of her time at Sogeti, including a recent special honor.

Name: Jessica McDowell
Role: Business Development Executive
Location: Cincinnati
Joined Sogeti: 2008

I’ve been with Sogeti for 10 years, working as a Business Development Executive based in Cincinnati.  As a BDE, I’m responsible for upholding positive client relationships, growing our partnership, and leading by example as part of our leadership team.

Success in my role takes persistence, dedication, and a focus on continuous improvement.  I was recently recognized for my passion, commitment, and performance in 2018, and had the chance to attend Sogeti’s Champions Club in Iceland, the “Land of Fire and Ice.”  In between exploring mountains, glaciers, and the coastline, we celebrated our achievements as an organization with our colleagues across the globe.

Top highlights for me included exploring Vestmannaeyjar, hiking Mt. Hafnarfjall, birdwatching for puffins, and being awarded at our Awards Ceremony for my efforts in establishing a partnership with a new global client this past year. I’m grateful to work for a company that recognizes the hard work that Sogetians put in every day.

Professionally (and personally), I enjoy lifting up others, and sharing experiences with like-minded professionals.  Sogeti makes it easy to feel fulfilled in making a difference in the lives of others through the Community Services opportunities we have every month.  Currently, in support of one of my client’s sustainability efforts, I’m helping to increase awareness of the damage single-use plastic bags have on our environment and encouraging our teams across the US to eliminate their use of single-use plastic bags.  The participation thus far has been humbling, and I’m even more excited to see all that we’ll achieve through our continued efforts.

I feel fortunate to work for a global organization that provides unlimited opportunities to learn and grow, while limiting the amount of travel I must do for my role as I manage clients with headquarters here locally.  As a family, we ensure we maintain a focus on “us,” and are always striving to achieve a healthy work-life balance.  Like with any business, the amount of work I have on my plates ebbs and flows throughout the year.  I know when I need to put in the extra hours to get through the week, and when it’s time to shut my brain down to focus on myself.  Fortunately, traveling only locally for my clients allows me to eat dinner with my family each night, play until the sun goes down, and see my kids off to bed.

My husband, Colin, and I have been happily married for 10 years and have two girls, ages 5 and 2.  Living in Cincinnati, we are near our family, friends, and my hometown of Indianapolis.  In my spare time I love playing with my kids, date nights, spending time with family & friends, cooking, gardening, birdwatching, exercising, hiking…pretty much anything outdoors.  In our household, you’ll frequently hear the phrase, “work hard, play hard.”  It’s important to me to experience and get as much out of this life as possible with those I love most.  I want my girls to grow up seeing and feeling that with hard work and determination, they too can achieve great things while being true to who they are.  I’m thankful to Sogeti for giving me this opportunity and look forward to the next ten years.
