Work Hard and Prove Yourself

Chelsea Tieman, a senior consultant for the ITICS team at corporate, discusses her journey from the front desk to helpdesk lead.

I can thank my brother for getting a job at Sogeti. He was a consultant here for nine years, and he had nothing but great things to say about his time here, so I figured Sogeti must be doing something right. He told me that it would be beneficial for me to work for a company like this, and if my brother tells me something, I usually listen (at least when it comes to career stuff).

So much happened in my first year that it felt like the year just flew by. My first day at Sogeti was amazing, and it felt like I had been here forever. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly that it was hard for me to believe that I wasn’t among friends.

When I came to Sogeti, I was working as the front desk doing office administrative work. I was asked to help the IT department with some basic tasks because I had shown interest in seeing how that team worked. I helped them with imaging laptops, sending laptops out to consultants, and checking them back in. I worked with them for about 8 months before I was approached by Aseem Gupta, our EVP of Operations, to see if I was interested in joining ITICS and working the helpdesk full time.

I obviously said yes.

Four years later, I’m leading the helpdesk and working on several other internal projects including moving our asset management to a new system. I am also the administrator for our T-Mobile account, and most recently helped with our transition to the new unlimited plan, which is an awesome benefit for our employees. I work with the best team, so it makes everything run so much smoother.

The sole purpose of the ITICS team is helping fellow employees do their job, and I love doing it! When you work for the helpdesk your job never gets boring. There’s always something new to learn. It could be a problem that a user is having that I never thought was even possible or learning more about the inner workings of how we get things done at Sogeti. There’s always something new.

Sogeti does a great job of acknowledging the work of its employees because they understand that a happy employee is one that gets recognition for the amazing things that they do. A few years ago, I had a chance to go to Top Gun, Sogeti’s annual event rewarding the company’s top performers. I went to Maui, and it was the trip of a lifetime. From snorkeling to watching the sunrise from a volcano, it was a truly amazing trip and I’m so grateful that I had that experience.

My story is just one example of how supportive Sogeti is of the professional growth of their employees. They have always been there to support my career, and there are countless other Sogetians that can say the same. If you just put yourself out there and make yourself known, you can go further than you ever dreamed you could go.
