The client engineers a diverse product line of oils, greases and other lubricating oils for use in sophisticated engines and equipment. In addition to blending and selling its own proprietary and trademarked products, the company is a leader in recovering and reprocessing used oil for resale as an industrial fuel oil, helping the nation to reduce its dependence on imported oil.
The client's current computer systems needed to be upgraded to support its growth plans which were a result of an acquisition that it was part of. To achieve this end, the company began looking for an IT partner to assess the current systems, make recommendations and implement a solution. Sogeti was selected based on a recommendation from another oil and gas industry client of Sogeti's.
The first stage of the solution process included an assessment of the current IT systems, the development of “as is” and “to be” process maps and a recommendation that the current systems should be replaced with an ERP package. The second stage included writing the requirements, developing software selection criteria, writing a Request for Proposal (RFP), solicitation of vendor proposals, conducting vendor demos, evaluating/scoring the RFP responses, assisting in the final selection and contract negotiations. After analysing their needs, Sogeti was able to help them select the best solution for their business – SAP.
Sogeti worked closely with the client management and SMEs to implement the system in less than 6 months. The client group now has a computing platform to support the planned growth in the years ahead. The system is configured using SAP “Best Practices” and provides the client access to thousands of SAP Reports. The SAP software is current and the client can take advantage of future software releases by the vendor. The client has successfully converted one acquisition to SAP in the first 8 months since going live. They have given feedback that they are pleased with the new system.
