Company Overview

Midmark hits the mark in the medical, dental and diagnostic equipment markets and in the process gives medical and dental patients and doctors somewhere to sit. Midmark makes health care equipment including power and manual examination tables, sterilizers, lighting, seating, electrocardiograms and dental operatory equipment for exam rooms, clinics and physician practices. Midmark's medical products are marketed towards general practice, podiatrists, dermatologists, obstetricians, gynecologists and plastic surgeons. The company's dental product line lets the company be a quick and easy source for dental equipment distributors. Midmark also manufactures similar equipment for use in veterinarian offices.

Business Challenge

As Midmark continues to conduct business with multiple subsidiaries and prepares to go global, the need to have an enterprise website with the same look and feel was essential for continued growth. Effective search engine optimization was critical with a new website to draw more potential customers. Additionally the previous website, Midmark.com, was cumbersome to navigate and visitors were unable to send direct page links to customers, due to technology limitations. The technology that the previous website was written in (including but not limited to ASP, CSS, and HTML) limited Midmark’s ability to efficiently and effectively roll out new enhancements and features, such as B2B (Business to Business) or B2C (Business to Consumer) portals. The previous technology structure and architecture of Midmark.com also restricted placement in internet search engines.

Solution

Sogeti was selected to perform a complete rewrite of the midmark.com website. The project was jointly owned by Midmark and Sogeti, with the two organizations collaborating on project management, development and testing.

Sogeti performed a 3 month Assessment Phase which included technology selection (SharePoint 2007), infrastructure architecture design and stand-up of the development instance, requirement gathering from all business units and shared services, high level design, 11 key page mock-ups in SharePoint, To-Be wire-framing for the site, functional use case documentation and implementation planning. Sogeti worked closely with Midmark’s advertising agency partner to design the user interface, page layouts and graphical design. The Implementation Phase lasted 5 months and included the development of 1000+ pages, deployment of Test and Production environments, Test Script creation, System Testing, User Acceptance Testing, Pilot Support and Deployment. Sogeti also developed a content management tool with SharePoint that allows for Midmark to easily add, modify and delete content for the website. The website was tested against multiple browsers to ensure compatibility with IE 6.0 and 7.0, Safari and Firefox.

Sogeti also included state of the art Search Engine Optimization tags so the website will now display high in Google and other searches.

Results

With the new website, Midmark laid the appropriate foundation to address their business challenges. In addition, the maintenance and support of the website will decrease and allow for streamlined processes. This is primarily due to the new content management tool which enables Midmark’s Marketing organization to manage the content of Midmark.com independently.

The new website meets all of Midmark’s objectives; improved Search Engine Optimization, better User Navigation, Innovation, Reflects their Brand Attributes, and sets a foundation for future B2B and B2C initiatives.
