Situation
The Parts management application, developed with Microsoft Visual Studio 6, which supported thousands of automobile retailers nation-wide, was losing its customer base due to serious performance issues within the application. The application's use of objects (maintaining them in memory as a way to hold information temporarily while a user is logged on) was draining a considerable amount of resources, heavily taxing the application. It was determined that these parts components be completely rewritten, by replacing the objects with XML documents. XML is extremely lightweight and built for this specific task. |

Solution
To address mounting customer concerns and achieve substantial improvements in performance, Sogeti played a significant role in helping redesign and develop specific areas of the application using XML documents and Microsoft Visual Studio technologies.

Stages of development included:
- Working closely with the Product team to gather customer requirements
- Testing to ensure stability and integrity of the product before release
- Re-writing web pages and the middle component layer of the ERA Parts application in order to remove state objects and implement XML documents.
- Participating in design and code reviews
- Performing unit testing and fixing bugs in integration and system testing.
