SQL Server 2005 is a marked improvement in providing customers with a highly secure data storage server. This presentation will demonstrate the new enhancements that move the security practices around SQL Server Administration from the needs of today into the future. Starting with improvements in improved security processes by design and default, the footprint and architecture of SQL Server 2005 reduces the area of attack and improved the protection on access points. The enhancements to provide a higher model of authentication upon user access as well as authorization during user access improve the effectiveness of database administrator's role of managing access. The enhancements to provide cryptographic support within the data models, allows the database administrators to manage encrypted data and certificates within the database server, independent of application development.
